A Season for all Men

It was interesting to read in this morning’s NYT that Charles Isherwood has noticed the same thing that 150 female playwrights who gathered at New Dramatists this past Tuesday also did – that female voices are vastly underrepresented in this upcoming theatre season.

A few weeks ago, I started getting emails from all kinds of female playwright friends and theatre companies, inviting me to the big event, where dramatists gathered to talk about the state of the season and what can be done to ensure that this is not part of a larger trend. I sadly was on the wrong coast for the event, but I was definitely with them in spirit (and have since joined the Facebook group)!

The big difference between Isherwood’s noticing it and the playwrights’ is of course that Isherwood doesn’t seem to mind.
